ionization Smoke Alarms
Life Safety & Litigation Concerns
It's Time To Tell Landlords The Truth
If Your Properties Have Any ionization Alarms Installed,
Even Though They May Be 'Listed', 'Certified' and 'Tested' . . .
False Alarms Lull
Tenants into a False
Sense of Security
Burning Toast
Tenants think
they're safe.
They're often
lulled into a false
sense of security
when their ionization
smoke alarm goes
off when cooking
and especially when they are 'tested' by
a smoke alarm
compliance company.
Tenants are not safe when any ionization alarms are installed.
Typical 240V Ionization Alarm
Listed, Certified & Tested

a sticker showing they have
been tested and listed by
the Australian government''s
(CSIRO) ActivfireTM Scheme,
2.* Australian Standard Certified
smoke alarms may carry an
Australian Standards
'Certified Product' sticker,
3* Compliance Company Tested
smoke alarms are regularly
'tested' for compliance with
the flawed Australian Smoke
Alarm Standard and often

. . . Your Properties and Tenants Are Absolutely Not Safe!
Landlords, are ionization Alarms in any of Your Properties?
What Type of Alarms Do I Have?
If your smoke alarm has a radiation symbol on the back it is an ionization.
Photoelectric alarms are environmentally friendly - they do not contain any
radioactive material (see sample ionization alarm above)
QFES Recommendation
The Queensland Fire Service strongly recommend that,
"ionization smoke alarms be replaced with a photoelectric type as soon as possible."
ionization Alarms Discontinued
Clipsal (Schneider Electric) FiretekTM model 755SMA hard-wired smoke alarm was one of Australia's biggest selling ionization alarms. Clipsal (Schneider Electric) and several other manufacturers have discontinued these alarms or produced new photelectric-only ranges without any ionization alarms.
